First post: The Back Story

How did I get myself into this?
Cranfield to South Africa and back in a single-engine, light aircraft. I could blame my wife who gave me a flying lesson for my 60th birthday. But that would be ungracious.It was a far-sighted gift.
I was in hospital, lighter by one prostate. " OK. What next?" I saw an advert in Pilot magazine. I had Alpha Charlie, a lovely low-hours Piper Archer III, barely 200 hours in my logbook, time and an incurable wander-lust. " Go for it Dad" my son said.
So here we are, South via France, Italy, Greece, Cyprus, then Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, and South Africa. Short break then north via Namibia, Angola, Gabon, Congo, Nigeria, Niger, the Sahara, Algeria and home via Ibiza just in time for an Easter Egg hunt and roast lamb at the Farm. Eight aircraft, 18000 nautical miles, 120 hours flying time. Seven fixed-winged mostly single engine piston plus one egg-whisk
